  My wife Nancy and I have known Clyde and admired his work since he and Maria moved into the neighborhood, but it wasn't until this year we were able to work with him. Clyde was patient and thorough as we developed a plan. Nancy and I love plants and flowers, but we are not the most attentive tenders of foliage once it's established. Clyde designed an elegant, easily tended layout with drought tolerant plants, in patterns that enhance the walking paths we've established in our small yard over the years. He was ready to proceed with planting earlier in the fall, but in light of the drought and our fall travel plans he thought better of it and said "I think we should wait until mid-December to plant. Hopefully we'll have some rain by then. We'll have easier digging and the plants will be happier, too."
  Clyde was right. We enjoyed watching the Hungry Gnome crew work and laugh together, and in two days the project was completed. Our new plants were cozy under their winter mantles of chips and straw. The yard was tidy. The garden hose was neatly coiled. The driveway was swept.
  We couldn't be happier.
  But dang it, those gnomes did set the bar kind of high for us in the areas of weeding, raking and sweeping!
